Guerilla Ritual:
Raices at MFA, Boston.
As a part of the #PLATANOGIRLS series there are performances and rituals in order to empower, celebrate and honor my African Ancestral history and the people in my community who inspire and motivate me. Utilizing tools from Santeria, a religion of the oppressed that manifested as a result Atlantic slave trade which included the Dominican Republic and other Caribbean islands.
*This practice is activism for authenticity of identity and unity. It was necessary in order to welcome and open up my work that resembles who I am and where I come from to institutions that have longed discriminated and excluded Black audiences and artists. My practice is not just about representation it is about the act of love. If there is no love in my work than it would be meaningless.
